Yesteryear

This photo was taken in one of photoshop in Temerloh in the 70s. Maybe when I was in Form 2 or 3.

Tok looked dashing, don't you think? Ayah Ri looked cute with the bear.

And my sweet mum( wish you were here). When we were busy growing up, I thought her whole existence is to take care of us. Yet now she isn't around when I need a quiet chat with her. I miss you and so are people who carry your gene yet never had the chance to know you.

Psst.......If you look carefully those on the left dressed better than those on the right.

My late grandma

After a 3 month break due to unstable relatioship with Streamix, I can write again.

To followers & readers------ won't kill ya to post your two cent worth. Nobody would laugh at ya! I won't.
These pages are for everyone. Not for me to syok sendiri only.

We want to read what you want to write. Give it a fresh angle, your angle. I won't go around telling people about what you wrote. They can go to this blog & you can go anynomous!

Apology, I am going retro again. If you're wondering and you should, when you look at the pic.
None of you ever met her cos she passed away long before you were born.

This is your moyang. Tok Jantan's mother. She was caught, minding her gobek, refill her kapor sireh, her after meal snack.

After my Tok passed away, she left her grand house di hujung tanjung, to live in her new , smaller house, nearer to our house. The abondoned house you see on the way to your Tok house.

Living memory.

This is Wan Ngah Jebah. She is the widow of late Tok Ngah Jak. Tok Ngah Jak was the elder brother of Nek Yang, your paternal grand ma.

I have lots of fond memories of them.
Actually Wan Ngah doesn't want to be shot but I had to take it.
She is my living memory of Tok Ngah.

It's quite hard for her to live her life without Tok Ngah. Nobody to share her golden years, to talk to, to fight with, to soothe her fears & worries.

Scene from old KL Bentong road.

I can't recalled when was the last time I used the old Genting Gombak road. Since the seventies when the first highway, Gombak Bentong was completed, we never used the old road. The road is narrow, winding and treacherous.
Yet yesterday I made an unconscious turn into the old road after refueling in Genting. Was the road still exist?
As I took the turn I realised the road is quite pleasant. Not much traffic, cool being under shade, there's a few small waterfalls you can stop along the road and the view is splendid. We can have the time enjoy the view cos we can't speed. I stopped at a spot and took this shot.

Secret to a good dinner.

Thousand of years ago, if you're tired of being a vegetarian, this is what you should do.
Learn to
hunt.
There were many ways to hunt for your dinner.
Setting a trap like a fishing net is a passive hunting but need some ingeunity to succeed. The active ways are like this. Try to immobilise your prey by pricking them with sharp instruments or shot them with something.

Driving school.

Maybe someone is trying to figure out how to drive the beast he is on. There's no clutch or gear pedal or even a button. Or maybe the beast got other thing on his mind or simply choose not to move.

The beauty from Paya Nangka.

Have been planning to go back to LK for sometime already. Itching for some haruan fishing. When march came, the opportunity present itself. Heard Pak Long & family was heading southeast on first week of march.
LK has some hotspots to test your haruan skills. The famous Paya Besar where some strangers from Tloh have been pulling haruan every weekends.
Never been to Paya Nangka before cos it looked not promising however heard some news from Abiya he lost a few haruan a day before. Do you know where is Paya Nangka? Can't call you ignorant if you don't.
Went there after subuh and if you stand still and quiet, you can hear the haruan are working on their breakfasts. It's almost magical. Like you are watching a kenduri.
If you count the exploding sounds, there are everywhere. It's almost like a virgin haruan territory. I looked around and saw risings in every nooks and corners.
And it's right here in Lipat Kajang. How wonderful.

Pak Long.

This is the latest shot of Pak Long when we last went back to Lipat Kajang in first week of March 2009. Still dashing I must say.

SPM result next week.

Many hearts miss a beat or two after learning the result of a five year academic struggle to be announced to the world next week. Many will jubilate next week and many more will quietly slip away into their own small worlds, trying to digest the news and it's consequences; how your future is shaped by this SPM?
Would like to share with you some stories I've gathered over the years so they might give you some perspective.

Putting things into perspective is important so that you can estimate the importance or ranking of a certain thing in relation to other things.
My friend, Dr Khairy Dimyati sat for his MCE(what SPM was known at that time) 3 times(while the rest of us went on to university) but today he is a Phd holder.
My ex store keeper failed his SPM but today he drives a Merc.
So what does this tell you?
Though you have to give your best shot, you owe it to yourself, bad SPM is not the end of your world. It's just a hiccup, a change of direction or a new start.

Playgrouns on my mind

Aktiviti masa cuti semasa kami kecil ada banyak. Hanya terhad oleh imaginasi & season.

Dry season( March to June)which is also fruit season, there's a lot fruit trees(ours & others) ; mencepu, rambai, rambutan, kuran, jambu air, kuini, manggis & durian. At these times we would disappear in fruit tree canopy. You can only tell where we were by the sound of fruit skin droppings.n You can ask Ayah A on his adventure with buah durian. Can't blame us on our deeds, we're just having fun the kampong way.

During this time, the mighty Pahang river, offers endless round of fun. Practising tarzan jump by climbing on trees on the riverbank before made our dives into the river. Looking for kijin, a kind of river shell, eaten after boiled, was heaven.

The swamp is another swimming pool albeit smaller one. We practised our swimming in the parit below our home. The thing is with mandi air paya, after you are air dried, you're covered by something white or creamy. And we got nice beating for that. Forget to scrub properly, the mud would show afterward.

Season biji getah, is also during the dry season, That's when the mature rubber seeds explode and send it's seeds flying everywhere. There was a kind of rubber seed which has a peculiar looking and an especially hard shell. we would gather these shell and challenge anyone to a contest,by placing two rubber seeds together and press them hard.
Dry season is also the season to fish. We would descend into paya with all kind of apparatus to corner our favorite fishes. This is where my fishing passion develops.

If everything else didn't fancy us, we resort to our own invention: single action & semi auto bamboo rifle.-all beg our attention.
So you see we're quite busy. we didn't harass our elders to entertain us.
We did it ourselves.
We have the whole kampong to ourselves.
We know all the tracks, the shortcuts and the interesting places & things in the kampong.

Money grows on this tree.

What this tree meant to me? It probably meant pocket money or ticket to the movie with nasi ayam thrown in in Temerloh. This tree is the mainstay of Lipat Kajang economy.

It's like cash box. All I have to do only wake up early, don my uniform and do my round. At 11am I complete my round and free for the day.

That's me.

Can't really remember when the pic was taken. Couple of years ago. The age is showing but that's life.

Unlike salmon?

This pic was taken maybe 5 years ago. Not very sure. Camera x date.
Some of the cucus during Hari Raya.
Now dah besar belaka. Ada yang dah lepas ke Colorado. Some won't be seen alive with those hairstyle?
Will they come back to this place & pose with their sons & daughters?
Only time will tell.

Asal usul keluarga kita.

Pokok keluarga?

Oh yes she was a heavy smoker. Kami yang ketakutan akan masuk selimut and very soon fall asleep after a long day.

Pesan Ustaz.

Tak perlu banyak seringgit pun bole tapi kena niatkan hajat tu. Anak2 yg nak ambil periksa, apa apa aje lah.

Zaman ni.

Assm.
This blog is set up so that ibu bapa, adik abang, ipar duai , anak beranak & cucu cicit Hj Jantan can write on anything & share with the rest. Everyone kena try constribute "cerita",daily happenings that happen in our lives, & maybe we are not very good at this, but with more practice we can write like a pro. Hopefully contributions from 3rd generation are most welcomed. Ayah Man is still learning to run this thing, patut le macam amateur je. Need your ideas too. Create a Google email account, sign in and can start right away. Either to comment or constribute new postings. Selamat mencuba
