This is another RM 3 fishing pay pond. In Malaysia ponds like these are becoming more and more popular. Ponds with saltwater fish are in even bigger demand. However saltwater fish fishing ponds usually comes at a price. This place beats all odds just like the other pond on the other end of the road. However this one is on a different scale altogether.

There are no apparent signs to what is the name of this pond. However to get here its the same manoeuvre as getting to Kolam Nordin but only turning right at the T junction and driving further down the straight. There is plenty parking on the shoulders of the road. Enough to fit one car on it.
The roads here as usual are not easy and require some getting used to in order to get around more accurately. Perhaps one would find this part of Jugra easier on the third or fourth trip to the place. One thing for sure this fishing pond is definitely a growing attraction for the town of Jugra.

Today we had the good fortune of meeting Tuan Dhiz Dhqi (Dicky) who is the “Peghulu” of the district and Tuan Izzat Ringgos who is “Vice Penghulu”. Our friends are members of the Kumpow Anglers society on facebook. Dicky and Izzat are avid lure fishing practitioners and also big fans of the brand Abu Garcia. Skilled anglers of these parts our friends gave us some wise tips when fishing the fish of this Barramundi pond.
The barramundi fish in these ponds unlike the other pond start from a minimum of one kilogram. The owners of this place wanted to give priority to the quality of fight and fishing the fish before hence the stocking of relatively large fish. This makes the experience fishing here more rigid and expensive. Good place to come and get your Barramundi certificate and catch a decent sized fish.

Apart from Barramundi one can fish other fish here too. Fishes like Groupers and Golden Snappers (Jenahak) are stocked up in a pond on the far right. The cost of fishing those fish too are costlier than Barramundi.
All fish must be bought. For those who do not want to take back the fish there is a catch and release option. This option costs RM 30 for 2 hours at the Barramundi pond and RM 50 for two hours for both the snapper and barramundi pond. Something worth considering if you are on a budget and just want to fish only.

The banks of this place is quite firm and  open. Good for fly fishing and lure casting. More exciting way to catch these fish in comparison to using the run of the mill live bait which might be very quick. The chap above was clearly an expert at hauling the fish up as he received multiple strikes and hook ups in this pond.
Flies can work here too buy somehow the fish in these ponds seem to have a hunger for lures. Both topwater and crank baits.

It was good to meet up Dicky and Izzat from the Kumpow Anglers society. Dicky’s son is showing traits of becoming a skilled angler and this goes to show that fishing is really entwined in the souls of all Malaysians. Many thanks to them again for their support and tips for the visit here to Jugra. We will be hearing more again soon of the adventures of the Kumpow Anglers.
For those of you who would like to test their skills for Barramundi in these parts please wear mosquito proof clothes as they are really rampant and hungry in these parts. Its a more sound option to visit during the day.
